Ruins of the Future – Review on Industrial Research Institute Affiliated to the Japanese Governor Office
未來的廢墟—試評許家維個展《台灣總督府工業研究所》
August 25th, 2017Type: Opinion
Author: Rikey Tenn Editor: Rikey Tenn
Quote From: 《典藏今藝術》No.299
Note: Hsu Chia-Wei’s interest in the history of science is not centered on the grand narrative of Japanese colonial construction of Taiwan, and his interest in exploring archives is more coincidental than planned. More importantly, a series of survey, conducted by him, on the three types of research materials (fragrance, zircon, butanol fuel) used by the Industrial Research Institute of Taiwan Governor-General’s Office (the former Air Force Command Headquarters), is not limited to the “scientific” representation of diagram, but further employs various image making methods with 2D or 3D animation, performance, camera drones as well as real-time computing and capture to dialectically discern the distinct temporal types in “modernity.”
